Marketing Manager, Adult Trade

SUMMARY: ABRAMS seeks a dynamic and experience marketing manager who will oversee the marketing vision and strategy for cooking, craft, and lifestyle categories. In this role, you will develop and execute creative marketing campaigns, working closely with authors and editorial, publicity, and sales staff. You will be part of a fast paced, hardworking, creative team and play an integral role in shaping the marketing initiatives to promote our distinguished books and authors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and execute creative, title-specific campaigns for trade, consumer, library, and academic channels using traditional and new marketing methods to achieve maximum ROI
  • Work with authors and brand partners to capitalize on promotional opportunities
  • Oversee creation of promotional materials and advertising, working directly with Marketing Director, internal designer, and outside vendors
  • Manage ABRAMS presence at select trade and consumer shows and author events
  • Represent ABRAMS in meetings with prospective authors and contribute feedback on potential acquisitions
  • Conduct and analyze market research
  • Maintain title budgets

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 5 years of trade book publishing experience, specifically in marketing
  • Experience in developing creative, impactful campaigns using traditional and new methods.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly motivated and innovative multitasker with the ability to thrive in a fast paced, deadline driven environment
  • Deep knowledge of social media, email and marketing analytics; metadata and consumer facing copy
  • Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, and Powerpoint is essential; TMM, InDesign, and Photoshop a plus.

Operations Associate

SUMMARY: Responsible for the management of business tasks that ensure the consistent flow of information for the completion of processes required in the receipt of product, foreign bindery shipments, release of new titles and fulfillment of backlist. Coordinate foreign sales and author contribution. Primary contact for in-house employee book orders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Traffic

  • Track on and report status of all imported printings
  • Coordinate all stock transfers to & from UK and Australia
  • Primary contact with freight forwarder
  • Report on status of Hot title shipments
  • Track Frontlist shipments to key accounts
  • Coordinate billing with proof of delivery
  • Distribute Daily Inventory Receiving Report
  • Coordinate with Production and freight forwarder expediting of freight

New Release

  • Run and Distribute Weekly New Title Release Report
  • Execute changes to weekly new title release schedule (cuts, changes in release date, changes in pub date)
  • Coordinate with Sales, Editorial, Publicity and Distributor
  • Create and Distribute weekly New Release Billing Report
  • Monitor inventory against proposed sales projections for reprint recommendations

In-House Operations

  • Create internal office invoices for advance payments, foreign sales and miscellaneous sales.
  • Review and approve all invoices from logistics vendors; resolve issues when necessary

Miscellaneous

  • Prepare initial P & L forms for reprints
  • Respond to emails and inquiries

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2-3 years of experience required, publishing experience preferred but not required
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel – critical (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, formulas, functions, etc.)
  • Must be process and detail oriented
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • APICS affiliation a plus

Sales & Subrights Intern 4 days/week

For Sales:

  • Rep Conference preparation
    • Create title data dump from our system and organize into catalog order
    • Organize Powerpoint presentation slides in catalog order
    • Update Powerpoint with on-sale dates, prices, etc., to meet deadlines
  • Research and compile mailing lists for prospective accounts
  • Create and update product collections in Edelweiss (an industry software program)
  • Organize and coordinate account mailings
  • Distribute advances (books) internally
  • Administrative work in Excel, such as data entry and validation of monthly commissions reports
  • Organize and print book covers and spreads for key account meetings

For SubRights:

  • Scan and organize SubRights contracts
  • Data entry / maintenance into the SubRights contracts database
  • Review general email inbox for SubRights Department and respond/redirect accordingly
  • Prepare and follow up for international book fairs (3 times per year)
  • Order and track samples from warehouse for account mailings
  • Research and interpret contracts for various rights, including language, territory, audio and ebook
  • Record, track, and route foreign editions samples received

Preferred Skills: MS Office & internet skills. Ability to meet tight deadlines & maintain detailed notes
